Lightening strikes twice.

The golf team of Brandt, Walker, Jones and Price beat Cole Camps PGA team at the Education Committee Tournament last Sunday. This notable achievement provides a second week of bragging rights which I will continue to exercise. Truthfully while it is fun to crow a little, the Golf Tournament was a huge success. Several thousand dollars were raised to provide scholarships for Cole Camp students who wish to attend college. I am always both amazed and proud of how our small town involves itself in helping others. Both the business community and individuals make large donations in time, energy and money to make these events successful. I find this involvement in our community to be very commendable. I urge you to help support both this project and the local businesses that rely on you to stay profitable and to be able to provide for their town.

On the Police Beat, Officer Ward and Officer Canfield had a mobile disturbance Saturday afternoon that had the combatants trying to ram one another with their vehicles. This situation was stopped at Booneville rd and Junge St. by the officers. Charges are pending as soon as the entire event is sorted out.

We had a bicycle stolen from a shed on Spring St. and apprehended two dogs that were at large.

Prom was Saturday night and as usual we put on extra patrol and as usual the prom went off with no problems. I love to see all the parents and families waiting at the entrance to see the kids in their formal attire. It is a wonderful tradition and Cole Camp is the only place I have seen it done. I think that it really makes Prom a more special event that ties the young attendees closer to their families and their community during this happy time.

Finally, as most of you know I have taken on additional duties taking the position of City Administrator. I have been asked how this will affect Police Service as well as other city activities. I believe that most will not notice any difference in services. We are changing the Police assignments to provide more coverage on nights and weekends. I will be working mostly days Monday through Friday and we will also be using Reserve Officers more during the summer months. Officer Ward will be handling some supervisory duties as well as the reserve unit which will help to free up some additional time. As Administrator I hope to streamline City Hall and improve our response to the cities needs. This position will allow a more comprehensive review of budgets, personnel and expenditures than before and hopefully allow us to operate more efficiently. It should also allow for better future planning and provide more consistency than we have experienced in the past.

We have discussed several changes in City Services and will be implementing them in the near future. One of which begins this Saturday, May the 5th.   City hall will be open from 8:00 Am to 12:00 Noon the first two Saturdays of each month.
